Can You Use Trimix and Viagra Together?

Back to All Defy Medical Health Articles & Resources

A man stares at a laptop screen in contemplation as he researches whether you can combine trimix and viagra.

Trimix is considered the strongest ED treatment.

It’s often used when oral medications like Sildenafil (Viagra) fail to work. Trimix is an intra-cavernous injection (ICI) delivered to the penis that encourages erections in as little as 5-20 minutes.

Because of Trimix’s strength, we do not recommend combining it with Viagra or any other ED medication.

Doing so can lead to a medical emergency called priapism, in which the erection lasts longer than four hours. Priapism can cause scarring and damage to the penis, further contributing to erectile dysfunction.

We’ll go over priapism in more depth and explain why combining Viagra and Trimix is not recommended.

What is Trimix?

Trimix is a penile injection that combines Alprostadil, Papaverine and Phentolamine. These ingredients work together to dilate the smooth muscle and increase blood flow for powerful erections.

Trimix also comes in other forms, including:

  • Super Trimix, which includes double the dosage of Phentolamine.
  • Bimix, which includes Papaverine and Phentolamine but does not include Alprostadil.
  • Super Bimix, which includes double the dosage of Phentolamine compared to Bimix.
  • Quadmix, which includes Papaverine, Phentolamine Mesylate, Prostaglandin, and Atropine Sulfate.
  • Super Quadmix, which includes double the amount of Phentolamine compared to Quadmix.

These forms are typically used if the regular Trimix formula fails to help, or if patients have a sensitivity or intolerance to Alprostadil.

What is Priapism?

As we’ve discussed, priapism is a medical emergency in which an erection lasts longer than four hours. At that point, it’s important to seek medical care to avoid permanent damage to the penile tissue.

When used safely and correctly, Trimix triggers erections without causing priapism. However, priapism is much more likely to occur if you combine Trimix with Viagra or other ED medications.

It’s important to know the signs and symptoms of priapism, since it is a rare but potential side effect.

The most obvious symptom of priapism is an unnaturally long-lasting erection that is unrelated to sexual stimulation. The penis may also be rigid while the glans (the tip of the penis) is soft.

You will likely also experience pelvic pain that worsens over time. You may not be able to urinate while experiencing priapism, as well.

Why is Priapism Dangerous?

When priapism occurs, blood becomes trapped in the penis, which keeps it erect.

During this time, the penis is deprived of oxygen because blood isn’t flowing normally. The lack of oxygen can damage tissues over time, leading to potential permanent scarring.

This scarring can worsen erectile dysfunction symptoms, cause lingering pain, and render medications like Trimix ineffective on future uses.

Why Is Priapism More Likely When You Combine Trimix and Viagra?

Priapism is more likely to occur if you combine Trimix and Viagra because both medications are designed to have similar effects.

Sildenafil, the active ingredient in brand-name Viagra, is a vasodilator. This means it encourages blood flow into the penis for better erections. Trimix triggers a similar response, but with stronger and more instantaneous results.

Combining these two medications can cause too strong of a reaction and lead to priapism.

It’s important to keep in mind that Sildenafil and similar oral medications take longer to work than Trimix, usually around thirty minutes to an hour.

If you’ve taken an oral ED medication, we recommend waiting patiently for the results. We do NOT recommend administering additional medication, especially Trimix.

If oral medications turn out to produce no effect, Trimix on its own may be the right solution for you. But be sure to wait at least 24 hours after taking an oral ED medication before injecting Trimix.

Should You Start with Oral ED Medications or Trimix?

We’ve gone over how you shouldn’t combine Trimix with Viagra or its generic alternative, Sildenafil. But if you’re new to seeking out treatment for erectile dysfunction, you may be wondering where to start.

We recommend trying less potent ED options first, including Sildenafil, Tadalafil, and Vardenafil tablets. Defy Medical also offers combination therapies to help with performance and libido.

If those options don’t work for you, you likely have more severe erectile dysfunction. In this case, we recommend Trimix penile injections for strong and rapid results. You can also try some of the other Trimix options listed above depending on your needs, response to treatment, and more.
