How Does BPC-157 Work?

What Does the Research Show?

A significant body of preclinical work conducted mostly on rodents has demonstrated BPC-157’s potential healing effects. These studies have shown accelerated repair of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and intestinal tissue, as well as neuroprotective and gastroprotective effects.

In one frequently cited study published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research, BPC-157 significantly improved Achilles tendon healing in rats. Other animal studies have examined its effects on muscle tears, bone repair, corneal healing, and even spinal cord injury with consistently meaningful results.

Human clinical trials are more limited. A small number of human trials have examined BPC-157 for treating inflammatory bowel disease. Results have been encouraging, but large-scale human trials related to tissue healing have not yet been completed.

This is an important distinction for patients to understand: BPC-157 is used off-label in clinical practice based on a strong body of animal research and growing clinical observation. It still requires extensive human trials to fully understand its benefits and risks.
