What side effects might I experience with Ketamine Therapy?

Back to FAQs

Ketamine Therapy is regarded as safe and effective when delivered by qualified medical providers. However, as with any medical treatment, certain risks and potential side effects exist.

Common side effects include:

  • Dissociation (feeling disconnected from one’s body)
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, and headache
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • Pain or discomfort at the IV site
  • Feeling temporarily unbalanced or uncoordinated
  • Elevated heart rate and increased blood pressure
  • Vivid dreams that feel realistic

If you’re prone to nausea or motion sickness, inform your provider so they can include anti-nausea medication with your IV Ketamine treatment.

Most common side effects resolve approximately 15 minutes after the IV infusion concludes.

While rare, more serious side effects include:

  • Low mood or suicidal thoughts
  • Allergic reaction
  • Low blood pressure
  • Slowed heartrate
  • Bladder inflammation
  • Delirium

Discuss any concerns with your provider prior to receiving an IV treatment.
