Should I avoid alcohol before my scheduled blood test?

Back to FAQs

Yes—avoid alcohol for at least eight hours before your blood test. Alcohol can cause temporary fluctuations in blood sugar, fat levels, and other important factors, leading to inaccurate results. Dehydration from drinking alcohol may also lead to more adverse effects from having blood drawn, like fatigue and lightheadedness.
