What’s included in Defy Medical’s Hair Loss Panel?

Back to FAQs

The Comprehensive Hair Loss Panel includes:

  • Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – DHT is the primary hormone involved in androgenic alopecia (male- and female-pattern baldness). This test identifies whether DHT levels are elevated, which can lead to increased hair loss.
  • Testosterone Free and Total – Testosterone is converted to DHT in the body, and elevated DHT levels can trigger androgenic alopecia.
  • DHEA-S – DHT is a precursor to Testosterone and DHT. This test detects whether DHEA levels are elevated, which could lead to accelerated hair loss.
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC) – This test can identify anemia, infections, chronic inflammation, and other potential causes of hair loss.
  • Ferritin – This test identifies whether you have abnormal ferritin levels. Ferritin is crucial for helping the body stores and utilize iron. If levels are low, you may be experiencing iron-deficiency anemia.
  • Iron and Total Iron Capacity  — Similar to ferritin, this test helps identify whether an iron deficiency may be causing anemia, which in turn can cause hair loss.
  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) – This test identifies potential thyroid disease, which is sometimes a contributing factor to hair loss.
  • Free Triiodothyronine (Free T3) – This test offers an in-depth look at thyroid health and screens for certain thyroid conditions that a TSH test alone may miss.
