What are Business Associates and how do they protect my information?

“Business Associates” is the term HIPAA uses to identify third-party service providers that perform functions on Defy Medical’s behalf. These include pharmacy services, laboratory services, billing, analytics, IT support, and document management.

When working with Business Associates, we:

  • Require them to sign Business Associate Agreements in accordance with HIPAA
  • Obligate them to safeguard PHI and use it only as permitted by our clinic and by law
  • Ensure they safeguard patient information
  • Review and oversee them as part of our ongoing compliance activities

Business Associates are not allowed to sell your information or use it in any way that fails to align with their function as an extension of Defy Medical.
