Who may not be a good candidate for Ketamine IV infusions?

Back to FAQs

Ketamine Therapy has a strong safety record. However, treatment is not recommended for individuals with certain health conditions, including:

  • Specific heart or cardiovascular conditions
  • Liver disease
  • Substance abuse disorders, including a history of Ketamine abuse or dependency
  • Certain psychotic disorders
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers
  • High blood pressure (though patients with hypertension may be evaluated for treatment individually)

Patients with a history of benzodiazepine abuse or those on long-term benzodiazepine protocols may experience diminished effectiveness with Ketamine Therapy. In some cases, discontinuing these medications can enhance treatment outcomes.

In your consultation with a Defy Medical provider, you’ll be able to discuss your specific circumstances and determine whether Ketamine IV infusions are appropriate for you. Each patient’s situation is unique and requires an individualized assessment.
